Sheinelle Jones’ Husband Uche Ojeh Dead at 45 From Brain Cancer

Today host Sheinelle Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, has died. He was 45 years old. The news of his death was confirmed on Today on Friday, May 23, with the hosts revealing that he suffered from Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

“There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” Savannah Guthrie said during the broadcast while sitting with her Today colleagues. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. … We just want to say Sheinelle, Kayin, Uche and Clara and the Ojeh family: we are with you, we love you. You are our family and we’re just sending all of our love to you right now.”

Sheinelle’s colleague Craig Melvin remembered Uche as a family man, and someone who always showed up for his three children.

“One thing he always talked about — he talked about those kids,” he said on the talk show. “He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline at every soccer game. He was at all the concerts, the recitals. He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story.”

Al Roker shared some kind words about Uche during the broadcast, where the cohosts mourned the loss.

“He was a private guy, but he was wickedly funny,” the meteorologist said. “He would say things that kind of caught you off-guard, but wasn’t braggadocious or anything. He was a very humble man.”

Dylan Dreyer praised Sheinelle for being so strong and such a pillar for her family during this difficult time.

“We all know Sheinelle. She’s always smiling,” the weather forecaster said. “She’s just a bright light whenever she walks into the room, even through this, you know? She relied on her faith. She relied on her friends.”

Jenna Bush Hager echoed the sentiment, saying, “There’s nobody funnier than Sheinelley. And that humor, she’s found the grace in the grief, which is not easy. But I know we’ve all, when we’ve spoken to her, just been completely inspired.”

Carson Daly, who lost his father when he was 5 years old, explained how turning to faith helped him manage his grief. He hoped Sheinelle could do the same.

“I think back now, 45 years later, my faith in God. God has blessed me in my life,” he said. “Here it is. So here I am, the young kid, and I say, eventually God gave me two incredible fathers, incredible figures in my life. And my life has been so fulfilling, and I’m so blessed for that. So I pray for their family and the kids that they’ll have that fortunate as well.”

Savannah, 53, said, “Uche had a beautiful, deep, abiding faith, every single day of this fight and you could see it in his eyes. He was an extraordinary person. We love him and we love you, Sheinelle.”

“We’re with you. We love you,” Craig said.

Sheinelle, who has been taking a break from Today since December 2024 to deal with the family health matter, also took to Instagram to post the segment from Today announcing her husband’s death, writing, “Thank you, for all of your love and support,” alongside the video.
