Denver (KDVR) – after years of construction, transformation, and slow traffic, the most famous corridor in downtown Denver enters a new era, with a new name.
The 16 Street Mall Mall is simply renamed as “Sixteenth Street”, as the city concludes more than $ 170 million to renew. The city’s leaders say that the change is related to more than the updated paving stones and seats – it is related to the transformation of the general perception of the corridor and the return of people to the center of a cleaner, safer and more modern city.
“There is a lot of good energy here in Denver, I feel that the city is changing a lot, but it is a good change,” said Niko Blanco. With Giordano.
The construction is almost complete, and workers have long say on the tape that the transformation is already noticeable.
“I feel at home, I have been here 4 years, so before construction, and now after construction, I am very excited,” said Madenon, also from Gi -Gredano.
The name change – to drop the word “mall” – to reflect the city’s goal of creating a more vital urban experience.
“I think Denver is always changing, so you may have something new, it may give people a little less fear, as you know, it seems that the” commercial center “looks a kind of old thing, and the sixteenth street will be common.”
In addition to cosmetic changes, city officials say that the corridor will now be easier to maintain and more pathways. Business owners say they have noticed another major difference: more clear safety.
“Many security and police officers have stopped, just to check to us, they are friendly and supportive neighbors, just to make sure we are safe, which we definitely felt,” she said Milk Square belt.
Denver leaders are also considering an open new policy on Street 16, with restrictions. Some business owners in the city center support the idea as a way to increase energy and activity during the warm months.
“I think you have a little cocktail to go to walk when it is 90 degrees outside, I mean, I will not say no, I will be in, so I love it, I think it will be great if they do it.”
“It is clear that we meet the needs of children, but at night this turns into a wonderful night life for adults and university children, and we do not prevent food more than that,” added.
While the city is preparing for a summer of festivals and traffic on foot, companies say they hope to bring this new chapter in the sixteenth street renewable energy in the heart of Denver.
“It has been completely changed, completely cleaned, and everyone cares a lot here,” said Genri.
“The change is always frightening, and I think this is for the better, and the future is exciting,” said Medina.
