Couple rushes to basement to survive tornado in Elbert County

Elbert Province, Colorado (KDVR) – Tim and Linda Greenwood were sitting at their home. After a few seconds, they were wandering on the basement, where they saw a hurricane heading on Sunday afternoon.

The hurricane fell in the Elkhorn Ranch neighborhood, northeast of Parker.

“We were already sitting in that room when it came, so this is the room where we were,” said Linda Greenwood.

They had 10 to 15 seconds to escape the damage they could not imagine. Complete comfort and fear underground.

Tim said: “The glass was appearing. Wood was broken.”

When they split their way to the upper floor to the ground level of their home, half of it went. The Fox31 drone took a picture of the half of their back house, destroyed.

The barn was also destroyed. The couple did not know whether they would survive.

“I just remember breaking the wood,” Tim said.

“It is cruel, but we lived through it,” Linda said.

The couple was able to save their dog on the basement. The crews were working to correct parts of their house. The dining room table can be seen between parts of the bombed walls.

Linda’s sister and her son -in -law were helping them sorting on the rubble on Monday. Greenwoods said they are thankful to many neighbors who also came to help this narrow society.

The Elaber Emergency Management County Office said more than 20 structures were damaged by the storm.
