Streaming new movies
“War Machine” (2026)
Alan Ritchson, best known for playing the larger-than-life protagonist in Prime Video’s “Reacher,” is moving to movies with Netflix’s “War Machine.” Ritchson plays a soldier suffering from PTSD who nonetheless excels in Army Ranger training. As he heads to the final exercise, his team discovers a seemingly unstoppable war machine intent on eliminating anything in its path.

“Zootopia 2” (2025)
With the 2026 Academy Awards approaching on Sunday, this is your last chance to see all the nominated films. The final film to hit streaming services before the ceremony this week is Disney’s “Zootopia 2,” in which Nick (Jason Bateman) and Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) return to the police force but struggle to fit in as partners. Despite warnings from their boss (Idris Elba), the pair stick their delicate little noses where they don’t belong and face a mystery that traces its roots back to the origins of Mega Animal City.

Streaming new TV shows
“One Piece” season two
Of Netflix’s three recent attempts at adapting popular anime shows (the others being “Cowboy Bebop” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”), the streamer has fared best with “One Piece,” a sea adventure about Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his band of pirate friends. This season, which still barely scratches the surface of the massive source material, finds Luffy and the Straw Hats in an area of dangerous waters known as the Grand Line, which features strange islands and even stranger enemies.

“The Rooster” (2026)
Unlike last week’s new show about campus machinations, Netflix’s “Vladimir” and HBO’s “Rooster” are primarily aimed at laughs, not scandal. Steve Carell plays an author who needs a fresh start after his divorce, and finds it on the college campus where his daughter (Charlie Clive) works. Despite being a successful author of beach reads, Carell’s Greg Russo never went to college, so he becomes the big man on campus and tries to offer guidance to Katie after her professor husband (Phil Dunster) leaves her for a graduate student. The series is written by Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso,” “Scrubs”), so it has a surprising amount of sincere and broad comedy for an HBO show.

“Scarpetta” (2026)
Nicole Kidman is everywhere these days, isn’t she? This time, the Australian actress plays a chief medical examiner looking into a murder that has strange connections to her first case from decades ago. Based on the best-selling novel series by Patricia Cornwell, the show also features supporting turns from Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, and Ariana DeBose.
