Ahead of the Lakers’ Summer League game against the New Orleans Pelicans, McMenamin said, “Paul has also made it clear to me that LeBron has not asked for a trade, and Paul hasn’t even discussed the possibility of wanting a trade in the future with the Lakers.”
He even tweeted about the situation via his official X handle, writing, “With LeBron James at the Lakers game tonight, I asked him if he would like to speak to me about his future with the franchise. ‘I ain’t got nothing to talk about,’ he said. My report for ESPN from Las Vegas.”

However, there’s plenty of uncertainty stemming from all the recent events and Paul’s comments about James’ future with the Lakers. This leads to McMenamin reporting that, per Paul, four teams are interested in James. The actual names of the four teams haven’t been revealed.
What’s Driving the Trade Speculation Around James?
The speculations and rumors have been raised ever since Paul spoke with the media about the 40-year-old legend prioritizing a “championship” over everything else and the fact that he “values a realistic chance of winning it all” just a few weeks ago.
Despite strong messaging, signs of tensions between the Lakers and James have emerged rapidly. Paul hinted that while James is appreciative of the Lakers, he still seeks clarity on the direction the franchise is taking. A championship-winning team is a non-negotiable for him.
Whether it’s Luka Dončić’s entry into the camp earlier this February, resulting in the loss of Anthony Davis, or the blockbuster Deandre Ayton trade, things are ambiguous for James and sparking one controversy after another.
