2 elephants are being moved from the L.A. Zoo, and activists are concerned

A couple of elephants will receive aging in the Los Angeles Zoo soon new houses – but their direction is subject to extreme scrutiny.

During a listening session in the Los Angeles City Council budget on May 8, the director of La Zoo Denise Verret confirmed that the zoo planned to send Billy and Tina, a couple of Asian elephants who called La Home for decades, to the TULSA Zoo in Oklahoma.

“We are planning to move the elephants and plan to move the elephants when the time comes,” Verit told the council.

She then supported council member Onis Hernandez Verit, saying that it was her decision, and her decision alone.

This decision, which did not receive inputs from the local or local government, has been met with concerns from activists who say that Billy and Tina should spend the last years of their lives in a haven, not another animal park.
