ASAN (KXAN) – TDCJ will take control of prisoners in central Texas later this year thanks to the allocation of legislative financing, according to a TDCJ spokesman on Monday.
The facilities are the Kyle Reform Center in Hayes Province and the Gregory S. Unit. Coleman in Caldwell Province.
“This legislative session, funding was provided to TDCJ to take over the units of Bradchu, Bridges, Coleman, Kyle, Linsi, Moore, and Willisi. This means that these facilities will not be operated in particular.”
On June 24 / they go into force August 31.
Warn notifications states that the Hays Province facility will witness 98 layoffs and that the CALDWEL province will witness 135 layoffs. The majority of these workers were reformist officers.
At the state level, 900 MTC employees will be affected by this change. Tdcj said they had already been notified about change.
However, TDCJ spokesman said that former MTC staff will choose to become TDCJ employees. TDCJ also sent recruits and hold “virtual transitional seminars” to employees. Employees who keep the benefits and salaries of state employees will receive.
MTC said it is expected that the state will keep many workers, according to Warn notices.
TDCJ also takes its operations in the Bell, Diboll and Estes units after the 2023 Texas legislative session. The spokesman said that these units have increased employment.
